Sue Gerard for Maricopa County Special Health District 3

There's an interesting article in the current Phoenix New Times about the Maricopa County Special Health District races.

Susan Gerard and Colette Rosati are running in District 3 for the Maricopa Integrated Health System Board of Directors (MIHS).  Both are former state legislators but that's where the similarities end.

Colette Rosati has one of the worst voting records in the legislature on animal protection, wildlife habitat, and voting rights. She received an "F" grade in both 2005 and 2006 sessions (see scorecards and reports).

In stark contrast is Susan Gerard, who served in the legislature from 1989 to 2003.  She was a strong proponent of animal protection, wildlife habitat, and voting rights.  Gerard sponsored legislation to ban cockfighting and to protect farm animals.

The MIHS position is not related to animals.  However, if compassion is an indicator of personal integrity Sue Gerard's record speaks for itself.

Alice Lara is running for Maricopa County Special Health District 5. Lara is an employee of Stan Barnes who runs Copper State consulting firm. You may remember that Barnes was behind the "Prop. 204 is Hogwash" campaign.

Below is a letter signed by Lara that appeared in the 2006 publicity pamphlet:

New Criminal Penalties for Farmers and Ranchers?
Prop 204 would create a new law in Arizona's 'CRIMINAL CODE' that could put farmers and ranchers in prison for 6 months and fine them $20,000 -- All for raising farm animals as they have for generations. Why on earth is anyone proposing to turn our farmers and ranchers into criminals?
Vote 'NO' on Prop 204.
Alice Lara, Phoenix
